Well, IDM can cross over into ambient. My usual definition of ambient is mostly beatless (or a very minimal beat) and chill. IDM goes more experimental using computers to distort beats and whatnot. In my book: Boards of Canada is a mix of ambient/IDM, tosca is downtempo, squarepusher is IDM ... My choice of labels to check out if you want to hear more IDM is: Merck, Warp (seems like you already found it), morr, musik aus strom, hefty, toytronic, and ninja tune.
