How could any kind of music be 'dead'? Even gabba and things like bad-ass-techno are in some way still alive, although there are fewer people listening to it. And while idm never was a genre made for the masses one even could ask if it has been alive in the past. What makes a genre being alive at all? There are still plenty of idm-related releases in these days and at least we are listening to some of them. I don't think any kind of music could die, it just can develop into other kinds of music but that is just a matter of naming it...
