there's another reason, related to this: spam. it's increased
tenfold in the past few years. there's now a lot of server-level filters
and domain name blocks going on. a list i was on for 5 years
gave up mostly because so many emails were being bounced by
other providers. if an ISP sees that your domain is sending 700
emails or more a day, it's going to think you're spamming. often
it's impossible to contact or reason with the people in charge of
the blocking (such as AOL).
yahoo groups gets by because they're yahoo. but i'm amazed
hyperreal's lists are still alive at all. bravo for holding the fort.
