what a stupid sentence that is......pretty unusual syntax too....i hardly
understand it in german ;)
anyway, i think it means something like that:
"Schönberg is understanding music as a discourse, where language (speech) is
developing a formulation (result) in/of meaning (thinking)"
the two principles in this sentence are:
1) speech is discursive....
2) ...and this brings a formulation, or result, of meaning, which can
somehow be applied to analyze music.
something like that......shrugs*

Subject: [idm] [OT] Jemand spricht deutsch?
Ok, so I've been wrestling with this sentence for the last 1/2 hour,
and I still have pages and pages to go...can anyone give me a hand
translating this?
"Schönberg faßt Musik als eine diskursiv verlaufende, auf die
Formulierung eines Denkresultats zulaufende Sprache auf."
I just can't figure out how 'verlaufende' and 'zulaufende' work in this
sentence...
thanks, and sorry for the OT! To keep things on topic, are there any
Chicago-ites who wanna tell me what's going on IDM/Techno-wise in
Chi-town? I'll be there this fall...
Luis
