Never been a big fan of grado cans, more on the look of them and the comfort whenever i've tried them on.. I'm a big fan of Sennheiser HD600s.. I've owned a pair now for 3 years or more and they're fab.. I really love the soundstage they create, it is different to any other headphone i've tried so far.. it really works nicely (for me) with electronica stuff.. very immersive.. I drive them out of my integrated hifi amp's phono socket which i think is quite good, they do need a good amp to sound best, depends how good your phono equipment is.. the headroom above isn't a bad idea, there are plenty of other headphone amps around as well.. For work i use Beyer Dynamic DT-250 80s.. look on headphone.com under their headphones for work and you'll see they recommend this can soly for that purpse.. http://headroom.headphone.com/layout.php?topicID=2&subTopicID=17 they're so robust, repairable and great isolation.. they're a little dark perhaps due to the isolation but i really enjoy wearing and listening with them.. there's a nice contrast with them and my HD600s.. I've also got some etymotic ER-4P in ear canal phones.. very expensive, but very lush sounding.. quite difficult to work with though but if you travel alot and can put ear plugs in without a problem then they'd be perfect.. stonking 30db isolation means you can fly planes and never hear the engine noise.. their reproduction is very very good.. like the HD600s.. probably more accurate... but being in ear their bass reproduction is different to other headphones.. its all there and perfectly proportioned but next to more coloured phones and ones with bigger drivers they can sound a bit bass light... I really love them but haven't listened to mine in a while.. For portable use i have a fixup headphone amp.. i have an older version but its very good.. ~$100 and very very tiny (like a box of matches) they have a good power to drive headphones better than any normal portable and are even up to driving hd600s quite well.. http://www.fixup.net/ http://www.fixup.net/products/pktamp/smini.htm http://www.fixup.net/products/inlineamp/index.htm Very very good if budget quality is of interest as well.. I have the super mini, the super micro is even smaller, they're all home made (as you'll find are a lot of headphone amps you can find such as meta42 etc.. all of which usually do very well against company produced kit at much more money) Beyond that the best community sites for headphone reviews and information are http://www.headfi.org/ http://www.headwize.com/ I personally prefer the former but they're both great places to get help on choosing headphones, amps, and sources from a lot of people who've tried them all.. this advice is good for any price range...
