Well it makes sense no? "Composer" is usually reserved for people who write down notes on papers, "musician" is used to address people as instrument-players. An electronic music artist might also be a composer and/or musician, hence the need for a separate word, and production is something that sets the process of creating electronic music apart from classical composition and general musicianship. So when you want to talk about someone as a person who creates electronic music, you call him a producer. I for one welcome this term.
