Since the Charles St. location of Modern Music closed, there hasn't really been a "one-stop" store in Baltimore that could cater to most listers. However, with the right battle plan, listers can still get (and preview) decent music in the Bmore metro area in person: The Soundgarden - www.cdjoint.com (has a moderately sized but still decently comprehensive "electronic" section. Post-Charles-MM, the single best place to get "idm"/etc in person in Bmore.) CDepot - www.cdepot.com (The Towson location north of Bmore isn't as large as the College Park [DC] store, but still has good bargains for those who don't mind a small but nonetheless worthwhile new & used "electronic" section) Modern Music (Eastern Ave) - www.modernmusic.com (has mostly crap club-fodder at disgustingly high prices, but still periodically rescues itself from total obsolescence. Literally worlds apart from the Charles St. location...file under "last resort") And of course, there's the self-explanatorily-named stores Inner City Records, ClubTrax, and Music Man Oldies for all the "eclectically-minded." RIP Bernie & Music Liberated (the store in "the bad Negro neighborhood" in John Waters' Hairspray) which was a mind-numbingly-good resource for odds and ends, and where I got all my Bmore club mixtapes, DMC vids, and even the Lexis 12" with the Autechre remix for 5$ way back when. Hope this helps someone! N.
