i havent ever heard of a piece of native instruments software that wasnt the best thing ever, plus you can link reason into all other propellerhead/steinberg software, http://www.steinberg.net/en/index.php, http://www.propellerheads.se/ like cubase, which is fun, but raw materials' tracktion is what i've been using lately. it has a "rewire" link just like cubase, but i think its super slick software. only thing i dont like about it is it doesnt directly encode to mp3, but its only one more step in finalizing process of a track, so whatever. http://www.rawmaterialsoftware.com/

sounds...the samplers in reason are way cool. i just bought reaktor 4 and i am IN LOVE with it! it is basically a modular synth/effects/sampling environment that allows you COMPLETE control over all aspects of your sound design. the learning curve is a little steep, but i am figuring it out.
