Hi Guys,
A few words about this release, for those who didn't hear it yet.
This is some kind of a digital privitivism album, glassy/FM tones and
physical acoustic percussion playing forefront melodies and drums, whilst
the background is illustrated with birds and nature ambiences.
Let's have a brief overview.
*1. Yelli :* this opening track just nails the overall album tonality —
i.e. the aforementioned «digital primitivism».
*2. Cocoa* : *nice minimal Larry Heard-like syncopated «tribal» house
introspective «Donk» sequence.
*3. Palmas* :* my favorite track, due to its unexpectedly pulsating
character — reminds me Pink Floyd's More trancey «Main Theme».
*4. Honey* :* this Norken-like melancholic track exhibits the most lyrical
and touching melody in my opinion.
*5. Cape Cira* : *don't know what the title stands for, but this chill out
«balearic» track — a good one —, makes the junction between the first —
percussive — half of the album, and the more atmospheric second one.
*6. Bluefin :* a bit of a Subsonic Park touch i think.
*7. In the pines : *another melody-oriented track, played by some sinewave
«epiano» ; a sporadic digital choir brings in some «Miami» accents.
*8. Happened :* some static noisy pad sprinkled with some highpassed
dialogue fragments and discreet bubbly feedbacks — maybe this is just the
plane taking you back home ?
*(*) 2 to 5 are the standout tracks to me.*
Although rRoxymore first comes to mind, i find that these tracks slightly
echo Aqua Bassino's EPs if you allow me this comparison, even if these
artists don't have much in common. Jason Robertson expressed a much more
polite balearism, but both of them eventually share some soothing
contemplative «summer vibez». Aqua Bassino was from Scotland by the way,
whilst K-Lone is in the UK.
If you like euclidean and sinewave-generated naive percussions and islander
abstractions, this is for you.
And for as pure are they are, these tones do not avoid feelings.
For lack of strict IDM, you still might call this an «Intelligent Cafe Del
Mar» album.
Upon the return from vacation and as the confinement days approach again,
this is pretty welcome.
