just a little morricone aside... its all well and good to listen to albums of him and stuff, but the man is legendary because of the way the music works with the films. If you haven't seen any of the Leone/Eastwood westerns, you just fucking have to. They are ridiculously good, but they would be nowhere without Morricone's music punctuating everything happening on screen. I mean... there is no dialogue for the first 10 minutes of Fistful of Dollars and how is it pulled off? Well its abosurdly overdrawn and melodramatic, but it works because of Morricone. He rules.
Oh and John Zorn recorded an interesting album of Morricone covers about 20 years ago. It got reissued in the past couple years with beautifully designed new packaging and new tracks with newer members of the downtown new york scene.
Also, Goblin(s?) rules, especially on the Suspiria soundtrack.
