Anyway, as for soundtracks and all that...
Ennio Morricone is sort of the king, but you might do well to get a compilation of some sort. You'll invariably discover that everyone samples him. Like that venetian snares - dance like you're selling nails track.
Bernard Herrmann is another favorite of mine. I mean... all of his shit is awesome. The Hitchcock stuff is among the best. Also, the day the earth stood still is a theremin classic and aptly sampled on Timo Maas' track Help Me.
Also, Danny Elfman.
Also Peter Thomas. Get Rampatrouille because its awesome.
And whoever mentioned Jerry Goldsmith on Logans Run, I second that. As well as Mr. Goldsmiths Flynt movie soundtracks.
