yo,
quoted 1 line what do Books On Tape sound like?> what do Books On Tape sound like?
that's a tough question! he pretty much invented his own sound. for a decent approximation, think of indie rock (say, the pixies or pavement), except done with samplers & with more of an electronica feel (& mostly instrumental). lots of tasty punk rock energy! books on tape is getting pretty big in his hometown of los angeles. i can only recommend checking out his music when you have the chance. his debut CD _throw down your laptops_ is very nice, but his upcoming no type CD _books on tape sings the blues_ really ups the ante (in my lowly opinion that is) & very much captures the essence of his live sound... & of course (plug plug) the brand new _hey typical!_ 10" not only looks super swell, it also sounds terrific. (if you're in the US & your favourite record store doesn't carry it, tell them to order it now from carrot top!) if books on tape comes to your town, be sure to attend the show if you like a good performance. he's quite an entertainer in his own right. & not the cynical type, even! also check out his side project dewey decimator, whose music you can download for free on his subverseco netlabel (www.subverseco.com). this has more of a lo-fi dub feel... wild stuff! well, that's more than enough information in just one post! :) hope this helps, have a nice day ~ david --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
