I haven't heard Fat John/Pole work; but each MC has a unique relationship to the beat. Some guys ride it, some guys don't. Some of my MC friends who are generally regarded as tight always sound rushed and behind the beat to me, but eveybody besides me seems to think they're tight. I recently got to see the Last Poets, and they perform with a conga player, but never try and ride the beat at all, yet somehow it all works out. Eminem's flow I've always found to be incredible; he has a unique approach to the beat, riding it and cutting loose from it but always sounding tight. Shame he doesn't elevate his subject matter and work with more interesting producers. On Mon, 2 Jun 2003, Bill Van Loo wrote:
