What on earth are you going to do with your Friday night? Probably sitting in a poorly lit basement playing D&D right? We at Sonic Therapy humbly suggest an alternative. Come sit in a poorly lit basement and see some music! Sonic Therapy presents cosuardstock roots That's right, for 2003 we took cosuardstockapaloozathon (year) fest and shoehorned it back into the basement where it all began. Things sure have changed since 1998, and things sure have stayed the same. We've all got different jobs, but we're still broke all the time. We all have different cars, but they're still breaking down all the time. So basically, we may be new hotness, but we're still old and busted. In 1998, the first cosuardstockapaloozathon (1998) fest was held in the basement of Mr. Gatti's on the Square in Denton. Five years later, the first of 4 nights of cosuardstocky goodness will be held in the exact same spot. It's just that now it's called J&J's Pizza. It's a fitting end to the cosuardstock nightmare. Due to scheduling issues, we will only have one returning act - Fluoroscopic Kid. He's played almost every Sonic Therapy event, and for the longest time, he was our only act to put out an actual record. Chomsky will be playing on the 25th at the Barley House, and The Shortwaves (formerly One Piece, formerly The Roommate) will be playing on the 24th. So the irony here is - we're doing a Denton show and we have 3 acts all from out of town. Fluoroscopic Kid is a former Denton resident (now in Austin, boo hiss!) who makes electronic music. That's about all I can do to describe it. Reference points include Aphex Twin, Autechre, Squarepusher, Pan(a)sonic, and not really Fatboy Slim or Moby. It's still good though. What to expect from his live show now, I can't even tell you. Every time he performs, there's some new aspect. All I know is that the computer involved will likely be a Macintosh. Household Names is one Jason Garcia from Austin. You may have seen him play with Dallas pop stalwarts like Deathray Davies or Chomsky, and the sound is not too far off. Jason clearly loves the Beatles, the Kinks, the Who, all that stuff I deride thoughtlessly as "old people music". However, Jason makes pop music relevant and touching. It's heartfelt and it's enjoyable. It helps that he can really turn a phrase. You'll want to leave with a copy of his excellent album "The Trouble With Being Nice" and the new single (on Sonic Therapy *PLUG PLUG*) "Hold On Tight!" Frank Jordan is the act that is not one guy. They are from Sacramento, California. Which is like Austin in California, except not quite. They make skewed rock music. The singer gets compared to Jeff Buckley. The band itself gets compared to the Police. Suffice it to say this band appeals to Sonic Therapy's sense of catchiness and quirk at the same time. Our friends the Filthy Reds loved 'em before I did, and then I saw them semi-accidentally in Sacramento and found they were right. We've been seeing them about every 3 months ever since, whether in Austin for SXSW, Sacramento for Christmas, or Dallas because they tour so damned much. Come check these guys out. They sent me a CD-R of their new stuff, and it's incredible. The important question you're asking yourself now is, "How much will such a show set me back? The economy is tough, and I need to conserve my show-going dollar." NOTHING! NOT A DAMNED THING! That's right, this show is free. We started off doing it for free, and we're ending it by doing it for free. Oh sure, we'll take donations - these guys are all coming in from out of town, but maybe you'll come away buying a few albums or something. Maybe stuff a few dollar bills in their trousers (or mine). This one's all about the love.
