ok, so i looked for a faq, no luck. i know how much
this question can get on people's nerves from many
moons spent on the early days of the dj shadow list
and its elitist invite only offshoot (woo.). but
it's been a while, and i need some help. do people
know, or can you direct me to a site on, much about
beat production. i have access to computer stations
at new school univ. in nyc, which have midi keyboards,
protools, finale, and a sampler/sound production
thingamabob. i guess my question is, how the fuck
do you do anything with protools? my guess is that
it's post-production software, yes? any suggestions
on the sound origination part of things, etc.? sorry,
i know this is really wide open, just getting started.
anyone in nyc? anyone go to the warp tour last
night? my broke ass cant even eat right now,
definitely didnt have 18 bucks to go see dj's i've
seen before. going to see m.sayyid from anti-pop on
friday. see beans walking around my neighborhood all
the time, he's amiable enough. what's the idm take on
the new beans album? my take: it's a pale shadow
compared to his live performance.
anyone familiar with broklyn beats label? picked up
a few releases, bottleskup flenkenkenmike (1-speed
bike) "looks like velvet, smells like pee",
erion/criterion, and a sampler. erion is the best,
the sampler not far behind. the erion release has a
track with samples of coverage of the 91(?) invasion
of iraq, eerie stuff right now, complete with bomb
sounds. saw hrvatski not long ago, good stuff.
sampling thumb piano, processing it through his
laptop. played with a guy named i:sound, his dreads
were shaped rather odd, i couldnt figure it out until
he put his headphones on, his dreads had formed around
his headphones from what is probably an ungodly amount
of time spent with them on his head.
ok, any suggestions appreciated.
colin.
