brothomstates is incredibly great stuff, and i'm kind of surprised to hear people talking about him as if he should be dropped from the label. claro, i'll agree, wasn't very strong at all, but i enjoyed qtio immensely.. there's also a wealth of material floating about the internet that he released before he was signed anywhere (he used to be fairly well involved in the pc demo scene as dune of orange) that i think is quite great and shows a good bit of talent. claro is a hard listen, but it's there if you give it time (i was never into it at all until i saw him play live, which sort of gave me reason to listen to it further). before you say he sucks, listen to his track on machine drum's remix album and the middle part of the live set on www.defaultresponse.com (the url for the set is http://www.enoughrecords.com/default/default_-_brothomstates.mp3).

the most part, that brothomstates is overall not that great, or is this just the opinion of one man? i think he's one of the more exciting things i've heard in the field of electronic music in a long time, and i'm shocked to find people not agreeing. I think my original post about this got lost somewhere. I agree with you. As I said before, I think Brothomstates is one of the finest signings Warp have made for years, and 'Qtio' one of the best EPs they have ever released, period. I love the 'Claro' album, but not as much as 'Qtio'. I agree that, for some reason, it doesn't have quite the same impact. I was disappointed when I first heard it, but it really does get better with each successive listen. It's worth bearing in mind that Lassi did submit a wealth of material to Warp, who I believe selected the tracks themselves and compiled them into the album that is 'Claro'. I would guess that we can expect great things from any follow up from Brothomstates. Has anyone heard the new track 'Naksuttelu' on Warp's exclusive "Advanced Listening Opportunity" CD? I was going to go to the Default Response live set but I missed it - which is a shame because having listened to the mp3 on the Default site, it sounded like it was an excellent set. I don't think it's fair to dismiss an artist after one album. I wonder how successful Autechre would have been if they'd only produced further albums that sounded like 'Incunabula', for example. )Jamesq. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
