at work I use Beyerdynamic DT-250s. these are nice and they are closed back, which means they don't leak noise and annoy people. i think noise cancelling will probably often mean reduced sound quality so probably a good thing to avoid. for home listening you can never go too far wrong with a pair of Sennheisers, preferably of the open-back variety. http://www.headphone.com has quite a good buyers guide.
