Whether or not the rant was justified, THIS is a good point.
Exactly how old was that most recent space shuttle? I believe it
was the first space shuttle in orbit - in 1981.
I don't know about you, but I'd be pretty damn careful about
sending people up into space in 20-plus-year-old bits of metal. My
car's about that old, and I would be nervous about using it for a
cross-country road trip...
...And before anyone pounces on me, yes - I'm sure NASA were very
careful in terms of checking the craft out, upgrading, repairs,
etc, but they obviously weren't careful enough.
*shrug* Oh well. At least it has lead to a resurgence of shuttle
jokes. Mostly ones recycled from last time, but still... What does
NASA stand for:
Need Another Seven Astronauts. ;)
