a while back, amongst all the conflict over whether or not autechre draft 7.30 was "really autechre or not," i decided to download it. i got some documents as well, stating that what i was downloading was from tape..... and before long, a slsk user messaged me and asked my opinion of the tracks. i replied that i think it's great when artists fuck up other's expectations by doing something unexpected....and that if it is them, then hell yeah....at least they're trying to do something different. this user sent me another message telling me that the reason i had the documents stating the files were from tape (and the reason i was the only user on slsk with the files????) was because i was just the kind of idiot kid who would make shit tracks in my bedroom and disguise them on slsk as "autechre." imagine that......
i just think this whole thing is funny. i mean.... how many hundreds of people have bit autechre's style? how many times have you heard a track and thought..."sounds like autechre"...and it isn't? and then some pretentious idmers decide they know what autechre should or shouldn't sound like (even better than autechre themselves!) and then......controversy!!! i love this whole little drama. it's the shit. it's so idm. if i were autechre, i'd be laughing my ass off.
