oxygen! (oxidize? hehe) Aluminum loves oxygen. Nearly all aluminum around has a thin layer of aluminum oxide on it that protects it from further oxidation. Even aluminum foil has that thin layer. That's also why clog cleaner stuff (like The Works) helps make "bombs." It'll corrode through the aluminum oxide to the pure aluminum and "explode." anyway, you don't need to worry about oxidizing aluminum, you need to worry about getting rid of that aluminum oxide. Clog cleaner, nail polish remover, or any similar chemical compound will eat through it. But you need to do it *extremely* sparingly, as even a full drop can render the disc unreadable. A pipette would help for sure. of course, the results would likely end up sounding just like a skipping CD, as a gap in the data is a gap regardless of how it got there. I'd say just scratch the thing. derek -- eggytoast.com -------------- commerce soon: eggtastic.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
