Mmm ... $1700 for a record ... could be a record (get
it ? woehahahaha ;-)) ...
I find it hard to give an opinion on this.
I must say that I can understand the buyer. People
have ALWAYS collected stuff and paid insane amounts of
money for rare items (stamps, paintings, cars,
statues, ...). So why not for a rare record ?
Actually, it could be bought as a sort of investment,
like most buyers of valuable art do. Of course you
could repress it privately with that amount of money,
but that just isn't the same ... Auctions are part of
our capitalist society, after all, eBay is an American
invention, isn't it ? ;-))
