Well I have the luxury of not owning anything by Aphex Twin before I bought
drukqs. I was into Underworld (and still am btw) and I wanted to get some
more electronica and an Amazon.com trail of "customers who bought this also
bought that" lead me to Aphex. So I bought drukqs and was kinda confused at
first thinking that Aphex was putting on some joke and was laughing at
everyone who listens to it because it is kinda, well, umm uneasy listening.
But I made a mix of all the fast songs and it is now by far the best music I
have owned in years. Its so futuristic that it sounds like the music "hip"
people in the book Neuromancer would listen to. I am getting his early
stuff like the Caustic Window stuff, Polygon Window, SAW and SAWII I like
them a lot and I can see how ahead of time Aphex was because back when I
used to go to raves in the mid 90's the stuff I heard was like aerobics
music compared to Aphex (Although I did hear PAC MAN at a rave back in the
day and dug it). I don't have I Care or RDJ yet as I am still letting
drukqs and all his other stuff soak in...I bet everyone on this list wishes
they can hear Early Aphex as if it were their first time...Don't hate me
because I am beautiful. Actually, don't envy me--I still have to go through
the whole "Oh my shit! I can't believe I listen to music called IDM...What a
pretentious prick I have become"
Ben Gill sounds like you are looking for a different sound than Aphex is
providing nowadays. Drukqs is EXACTLY the kinda music I want to hear. Its
totally relevant to my attitude and my life. You are just in a different
place.
