Hmmm... this is quite tricky since it depends on how broad your view of what
IDM is... is.
My music taste first went left when I bought copies of The Orb's Adventures
Beyond The Ultraworld double LP and Orbital's green album on the same day...
Then I moved into ambient music for quite some time... Biosphere's
'Patashnik' being a particular favourite...
I suppose the very first solidly IDM record I ever bought was my gorgeous
bronze vinyl copy of Black Dog Productions 'Bytes'. I can remember sitting
up in amazement listening to all those wonderful electronic oddities through
a haze of vinyl surface noise and being totally entranced... ('Bytes'
doesn't sound the same on CD - which I bought much later. I have to listen
to it with surface noise... the experience is completely different.)
The Artificial Intelligence series quickly became a staple.
And ever since then I couldn't stop buying IDM...
