The thing about it is that it is NOT a joke. Not at all. W.I.T. really
have made all those magazines. The "Electroclash" scene is a carefully
constructed PR stunt on an indie level and it seems to be succeeding.
There is too much ridiculousness on that website to comment on, but lets
just look at one telling quote:
"Most of these Djs have really come into their own this year, defining
the freedom of the new Djs to play anything that turns them on and
breaking the beat-matched tradition that has taken the excitement out of
Dj culture."
Alright... so beat-matching took the excitement out of DJ culture? I'm
not an expert, but I was living under the assumption that beat-matching
was one of the things that began DJ culture. News flash to Larry Tee:
there have been plenty of Djs who have forsaken the beat-match for the
sake of freedom and innovation, but it wasn't because they just got
frustrated trying to match up Blue Monday with their favorite Boy George
track that really "turns them on". Speaking of things turning people
on, I know I get excited when I hear a DJ manage to beat-match two
things in an interesting way that had never occurred to me. Way to put
spin on Djs without skill! ELECTROCLASH RULES!
