ovalprocess is one of my least listened to oval discs, partially because his
sound had worn off a bit by the time i got that one, for me anyway. the most
immediately similar would be the follow up, "commers." all of his discs are
worthwhile, really, but personally i really like "dok" which is very ambient
by comparison (lots of heavily processed field recordings courtesy of
christophe charles, who has his own companion release on ritornell, though
oval's is superior). i also am really hooked after all these years still on
"diskont" which is probably the album that most immediately defined people's
perceptions of oval (or at least mine).... lots of skipping CDs, strange
sounds and awkward rhythms ("systemisch" is comparable though i myself
prefer "diskont"). when oval was very much in the moment and abusing
technology to make music in a way that is more obvious but also more
subversive than his newer work. does anyone remember when "amp" on mtv would
play the video for "do while"?

fennesz is all over the place. i would recommend "hotel paral.lel," an older
release (1997?) which is on mego as well. it goes in between ambience,
noise, static and deep, pulsating (pseudo) techno. it's probably his most
varied but my favorite. the coordinates release on touch is much noisier,
but still very serene like i find most of his work. if you like his
ambient/staticky/noise stuff you might also look into rosy parlane's newest
release on sigma, which is similar in nature. "endless summer" is probably
the most traditionally "musical" release i've heard from fennesz, though, so
i'm not sure if any of the others would be a step in the right direction for
what you're seeking.
