Modsquare is an online magazine in the form of an arts journal covering
the most influential and innovative developments within electronic music
and its culture. This involves not only reviewing music and interviewing
artists, but also focuses on the enabling technology.
CULTURE + TECHNOLOGY + MUSIC
The MUSIC covered by Modsquare (known alternately as "IDM,"
"Braindance," "Mindgroove," or simply "expirmental electronica") is the
product of experimentations with the current TECHNOLOGY as well as the
artistic judgements of the musician. The technology is not only the
hardware and software combination used by musicians in creating their
music, but is also a more general focus on those developments which
significantly affect the global and local CULTURE that we are all a part
of at some level.
We are looking for writers who want to write articles for any of the
four quadrants of Modsquare:
FEATURES: Indepth studies of a particular issue, idea, technology, or
movement.
INTERVIEWS: Engaging conversations with musicians, artists, and other
innovators.
MUSIC REVIEWS: Reviews of albums of the genre covered by Modsquare.
TECH REVIEWS: This section is for reviews of software, hardware,
gadgets, and other developments within technology that are influential
to culture at some level. Generally, the focus for software and hardware
is on those things that affect the artistic creation process, but this
area also covers broader developments that affect life with technology.
The magazine is in its pre-release stage. The official release will be
marked by a release party event in Chicago, as well as a remix contest
on the site.
