I think alot of people sound like autechre because its just the kind of
thing
you can come upon by noodling about with current software.
I know a couple people who know nothing about autechre or the "IDM"
scene who come up with stuff that you could call autechre clones
(not developed, but similiar kinds of sounds/structures).
I think the key is just support what you like.
There's always going to be producers who are going to retread
the same territory...its not like everything can break into new areas.
