I think alot of people sound like autechre because its just the kind of thing you can come upon by noodling about with current software. I know a couple people who know nothing about autechre or the "IDM" scene who come up with stuff that you could call autechre clones (not developed, but similiar kinds of sounds/structures). I think the key is just support what you like.
