Well there are label services like http://www.emusic.com There is the MP3 subscription of http://www.badorb.com and there are purely free releases like those from http://www.mono211.com and http://www.subverseco.com as well as a miriad of others. I'm not sure how the above differs from the question you asked below but I can confirm that there are plenty of ways to receive MP3s for free as well as for money.
