A lot of companies don't sell to consumers directly, and encourage people
to go through their distributors and retail outlets. It cuts costs because
they don't have to staff a call center for sales and ordering/shipping.
On top of that, the prices from the actual producers of hardware/software
is almost always higher than the price you can get it from retailers. Less
so for software, but definitely for hardware.
Finally, many companies who sell high-priced audio processing software
understand that if you're serious about purchasing their product, you
already know how much it costs and that price isn't much of an issue.
It's sort of dumb as it doesn't open the doors to amateurs or hobbyists, or
people just looking to start out, but that's their business choice. Can't
say I agree with it, but that's the mentality.
