why do i think that being a girl who likes idm is not any different than being a boy who likes idm? or why do i get 'ooh, you're a girl' emails when i post? the answer to the first should be obvious--it's about the music, not about the people listening to it. of course, everyone's take on the music, their opinions and reactions, are different, based on who they are and what they like--but i'm resistant to the idea that it's weird for women to like idm for any reason. it's a hard genre for anyone to get into--i used to hate it! i couldn't really appreciate the broken rhythms and the abstract sounds...but now i love it..it just took some time, and other sorts of emotional and mental maturing. i don't necessarily disagree with the statement that there are a lot fewer women into idm--i just think it is pointless and possibly divisive to makea big deal out of it as a 'women are different than men' kind of thing. and to get back to the subject of music, i REALLY like the new string theory album (more like an EP) called anhedonia...the first track especially makes me happy---excellent driving music. it's smooth and lush, and also has wonderful transitional crunchiness... another thing i picked up recently tht i love is the cottage industries 2: annexe 2 cd set--cd 1 is especially good...a lot of the kind of thing i love--emotion and melody and depth suspended, arched over crunchiness...mmmmmmm. i think the only track off cd 1 i don't care for much (but don't hate!) is one called neo robot party crash. thing 3: more on the ambient tip, but still excellent--ambient soho 3, with 2 excellent tracks on cd 2 by sandspider, whose debut album, spider, is worth picking up as well. lovely beats, good texture, and interesting samples here and there. -rachel (aka djpie) piesarenice.net --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
