Prokofiev's Visions Fugitives is gorgeous, though the orchestrated version seems to be the most widely available rather than the original solo piano pieces. Chopin's Preludes are gorgeous too, moody and dark. Someone suggested Cage's 40s piano pieces - I'd second that - lovely stuff, my cd is Wergo. Cheers, Colin.
