ok, so even if MTV will never let it happen, its still worth doing, its like voting for a political party that has no chance of winning, at least the our opinions are voiced and we show support to the artists. Plan C really is, if MTV won't help us then we'll do it ourselves, I don't know what that means exactly but thats why we do record camp. One glimmer of hope though, I was in Other Music last week and these obvious TRL kids came in while some IDM was playing, they were really into it, they'd never heard anything like it they said. They left the store with some IDM comps per Scott's suggestions. Its not that people don't want to try new things its that new things aren't what they get to see at popular venues. Every now and then, while djing someone will walk in and ask if I've got any jay z or if I play any "progessive" or they'll tell me if I played dancehall we'd fill the place, thats not really the point. Its for those people that come in who listen to jay z all day and come up to me and ask what I'm playing and where they can get it rather than tell me what I could do better to appease the american pop culture attitude. Its also great when someone comes up to me and says, "wow, are you playing Phonem?", that always blows me away. I think what I meant to do by suggesting that we all vote for marumari on TRL was to encourage supporting this scene and this music because even in a place like NYC that doesn't happen as much as you would think. Liking this music or any sub genre/culture is a constant uphill battle. Its hard enough being a fan, imagine what its like being an artist. I've gone to shows where I thought the place was going to be packed and I get there only to find a handfull of the same hardcore fans that I see at most shows. There are very few venues for this music because more often than not these events end up with poor turn outs. This isn't the same in other genres, you can pick any given punk rock show featuring a bunch of bands you've never heard of, show up and you'll find a full house. Part of this is about the music, the rest of it has to do with community and the need to be within something familiar. anyway, I've gone way off topic. :-) http://www.recordcamp.com -----Original Message----- From: Henderson Jesse [mailto:friendofgod@mindspring.com] Sent: Saturday, November 17, 2001 3:04 AM To: Lander; idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] marumari on trl- getting OT ok then.......plan b strategy......we create a virus that uses very complex programming algorithms to alter reality and turn TRL into the thunderdome.
