He's a French guy who experiments with non-musical sources. Its not
techno. Here's the blurb on his Musiques Paralloidres on Lowlands.
"We know Pierre Bastien as the man who builds instruments out of
Mecanno. With this set up, he played around the world for more than ten
years, solo or in combination with artists such as Pascal Comelade, Jac
Berrocal, Frederic Le Junter, DJ Low, Jaki Liebzeit, and many more. Out
of this concept, Bastien began experimenting with Olm record players,
portable instruments that come complete with it's own case. A few
singles are subjected to cursory treatment by several turntables that
have been stripped of all their primary function: that of reading
grooves. Instead of slowly spiraling inwards and spiraling towards the
disk's center and the mechanism that cuts the motor, their arms ignore
the laws of gravity and inertia. Over these loops and grooves, Bastien
plays his fragile trumpet compositions. Those who have caught him live
on his many passages raved about him; for the rest of you - tune into
the sound of Paralloidrical Music."
