to further clarify what i meant in my original post; it's not
focusing on what is new and undiscovered that is important. it is the
focus on what is new by artists that are NOT aphex twin, autechre, or
squarepusher. i think that my posts emphasized points other than the
ones you are talking about. i think its more important to point new
fans to new artists, instead of having them get old warp back
catalogs. although these are important releases, i believe it is more
important to focus on new and emerging talents.

i wouldnt say that new IDM sounds like "old" IDM. what i consider to
be old IDM, such as say, Analog Bubblebath 1, or Amber, is incredibly
simplistic when you hear it today. listen to the SKAMpler and tell me
that any of that music would be considered intricate? todays artists
are taking the idea of a simple, melodic structure, and pushing it,
adding levels and development.
im not going to compare individual artists, here. but then again, i
never intended to disrespect old artists in the least. i think we all
owe a lot to aphex/autechre/tomj/cylob/gianluigi. but that dosent
mean that we should look to them to continue to create the best music
and deconstruct their every track. just as we dont expect the rolling
stones or aerosmith to create the best rock records, why do we keep
worrying about the newest aphex cd?
