If you read the article though you realise that he doesn't cite any
particular artists, rather the bland sweeping use of electronics in music,
which, it must be said, can lead to a generic style and lack of interesting
direction in music.
Perhaps he has not heard anything good, as the majority of mainstream
computer produced music is shit, being the generic trance/house anthems that
we elitist fucks bleat on about being shite.
I believe most of us here would agree with Eno to a certain extent. However
he is getting old and the older that "groundbreaking" artists become the
more they start to believe that their music is the only kind with any merit
(see most chats with stockhausen to confirm this).
The whole generative Vs. crafted music thing will continue to run forever,
untill someone writes a program that can make trully inspirational and
deeply individual tunes at the drop of a hat, crafted music will continue to
win mainstream appeal. Not to say a club with no DJ's, but a continuous
shifting soundscape with beats that constantly and seamlessly shuffle around
into different and yet acoustically appealing configurations, wouldn't kick
ass.
