Starfield Simulation - live at rooseum 010324 comp lp (Komplott) Starfield Simulation is an electronic musicians' collective from Malmo, Sweden created in conjunction with the Malmo Center for Contemporary Art and the Komplott record label. This compilation is a recording of a live session of Starfield Simulation and features eleven tracks from new and relatively unknown swedish producers including All Spec Kit, Figurera, Belavox, DN FN, Fumca, Kaputt, Son of Clay, No Source One, Mathias Kristersson, Tobias Tott + Max Palax, and Smyglyssna. Style on this one is for the most part ambient but ranging from glitch to drone to microsound but all with a very spacious feel. The few tracks that arent ambient are an experimental d&b piece from Kaputt and a spacious noise-glitch track from Mathias Kristersson. Overall a nice collection of tracks that nicely convey the 'starfield' theme of the release. A perfect release for late night stargazing and well worth a listen. This compilation lp will be limited to 300 copies. Also look out for a Starfield Series 7" series of releases coming soon. For more information on this release check the Komplott website at http://www.komplott.com . Vim!: linden - home of the hits cd (Surgery) After years of underground demo-scene toiling, Vim! finally releases his first full-length courtesy of the Surgery label. "Linden - home of the hits" features 18 tracks that seem to focus on melody and complexity within various styles & frameworks ranging from jazzy idm to light d&b to squelchy ambient and even a little droney electronica. With 18 tracks there are a few filler tracks but there is still a lot to enjoy here. Overall, "linden - home of the hits" is satisfying release from Vim! though not as essential as some of the other Surgery label relases. For more information check out the Surgery website at: http://www.surgeryrecords.com.au . Jetone: ultramarin cd (Force Inc) 'Ultramarin' features a suprising change of styles from Jetone from his previous album on Pitchcadet. Instead of playful electronica, 'Ultramarin features deep bassy bc/cr-flavored percussion, etheral chords, subtle microsounds, and icy sonic textures. Upon first listen you would swear you were listening to early Porter Ricks or Monolake releases but rhythmic subtlies and microsound adornments give these tracks their own unique identity. For the most part 'Ultramarin' delivers deep pulsing techno submerged in shifting aqueous melodies and textures with a few more experimental ambient exceptions. Overall "Ultramarin" is a fabulous deep techno/ambient album - in fact, one of the year's best - and highly recommended for fans of early Porter Ricks, Monolake, Radio, Sutekh, and Vladislav Delay. Does Jetone/Tim Hecker have any other releases in this vein? . B. Fleischmann: tmp cd (Charhizma) The third album for Mr. Fleischmann is a live recording from a show at the Museumquartier in Austria in November 1999 and shows a darker, cinematic, more experimental side to his music. 'TMP' features two tracks/parts, 17 & 52 minutes long, that combine some of Fleischmann's pop-based melodies & structures with darker omnious (almost industrial) downtempo percussion. Throughout both tracks the experimental edged crunch/grit continuously battles back and forth with the more accessible melodies for prominence creating a continually evolving sound with a conflicted feel but it seems that the signiture meloncholy melodies always win out. This album is definitely not what I would have expected B.Fleischmann to sound like live but the end result is just as impressive. Fans of previous B.Fleischmann releases as well as those into meloncholitronica with an ever-so-slight industrial-edged should definitely check 'TMP' out. Recommended. . Live Sets at Ego 1998-2000 comp 2xcd (Ego) A great double cd set of 22 live tracks recorded at the famous Ego Club in Duesseldorf between 1998 and 2000. A few of the impressive array of techno, tech-house, and expermential producers included on this compilation are Monolake, Kit Clayton, Thomas Brinkmann, Swayzak, Opiate, Continuous Mode, Smyglyssna, Salz, Markus Nikolai, Kandis, Senking, and Noto to name just a few. A few of the many highlights on the first (of two) cd include the deeeeeep techno brilliance of Continuous Mode, Sutekh (redoing a track off of Periods Make Sense), the Salz remix of Phillipe Cam's 'Caddie's Day' track, Swayzak's robot-infused deep-houser 'Doobie,' and Jammin' Unit's bleepy sample-infused electro-groover. Whereas the first cd was a little more floor-friendly, the second cd seems to have more of an experimental/ downtempo edge with the highlights being Senking's dark squechy track 'Rachel,' Produkt's minimal downtempo groover 'Statik,' Opiate's melodic yet skittery 'Read-thru Colors,' Kit Clayton's untitled melodic dub groover, and Monolake's deep warm techno soundscape entitled 'PlutoŠ' In the end more than 85% of the tracks on this compilation are highlights of one form or another. Live Sets at Ego 1998-2000 is a great compilation that's well worth seeking out if you enjoy the works of any of the artists mentioned above. no. 12 just around the corner... -- -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
