Wow, I go away for a day and a flame war erupts. I suppose I'd better attempt some damage control. 1. I have, in fact, heard every single Ani DiFranco album. All of them. My main problem with Ani DiFranco is not her politics, nor her trendiness disguised as feminism, nor her trademark self-validating braggadocio. No, in fact, my problem is that ALL OF HER SONGS SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME, down to the chord progressions and rhythms. The fact that she tends to write about the same few subjects over and over and over again doesn't help the formula. 2. Contrary to popular belief, I am not 12 years old, and don't jack off to my own writing. What I offered was a satirical reply; if you took it personally enough to bother flaming me, you simply don't get the joke. And it *is* a joke, so quit taking yourselves so fucking seriously, come down off your ego and lighten the fuck up. 3. Has anyone noticed that this subject is not only utterly absurd, but completely off-topic? May we stop it here, please? I'll end with a true story about Ms DiFranco the feminist: I had a girlfriend last year who did some social work at a girl's boarding school. Every year, the girls would pick an artist to have for a concert, and the school would try to get them to play. Well, this one year the girls really wanted Ani DiFranco. My ex-girlfriend pulled some strings, and was able to get Ani to play. Though no one asked her to tone down her performance style for the school, the folk artist was uncharacteristically polite and clean-mouthed, and played a rather respectable set. A few days later some of the girls found at that Ani was doing another show about 40 miles away. They begged my ex to take them, and reluctantly she caved in and bussed a bunch of the girls out to the show. When Ani took the stage, high as a raincloud, she immediately went into a rant about this horrendous show she had to play earlier in the week at "some stuck-up prissy-ass girl's school down the road." She went on and on about how disgusted she was with what she called 'cardboard cutouts' and 'brainless sheep;' she was merciliess in her character assassinations. The girls were devastated. Some began to cry; others yelled out, "YOU FUCKING BITCH! WE HATE YOU!" One of them rushed the stage, furious, and was tackled by a bouncer. They were immediately ushered out. Thanks for your time. m@2zo www.thechisa.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
