Agreed. And it was disappointing to see such a low turnout.
I walked in during Stars As Eyes during their last song, so I can't
obviously judge them on that alone, but the one track I heard was rather
Seefeel-ish.
Reading all the reviews here of Cex's show, I knew what to expect, got
exactly that, and enjoyed it. I agree to some extent that the music
mostly took a backseat to Cex's rappin's.. and would have been more
intrigued if he was able to pull off a great frontman act *and* some
amazing noises/beatz in the forefront as well, but I give Ryjan creds for
being as entertaining in between and during songs as, say, guitarists
Chris Knox (Tall Dwarfs) and John Darnielle (Mountain Goats), to make
analogies -- especially for an electronic act. His freestylin' at the end
("chicken", "squirrels", and "Mr. T") was hilarious... he should apply to
be on "Whose Line Is It, Anyway?"
Kid 606 did a great set.. probably the most danceable and accessible I've
seen him do live. Again, too bad there was a sparse crowd. He ended his
Seattle set with a really great cover song. (E-mail me to get the answer,
as I don't want to spoil it for those of you about to see the live show)
