Wow! You just managed to combine the two of the all-time bandwidth-wasting
subjects of the IDM list:
1) Why doesn't Autechre make good music any more?
2) What is IDM?
The answers are:
1) They do. You just don't like it. Forget about them, and move on.
It's silly to expect artists to keep producing the same stuff,
no matter how "good" it is or how much you may like or dislike it.
I've no doubt that Autechre could produce a worthy successor to
Amber or Tri Repetae if they wanted to. But they obviously don't.
Deal with it.
2) A mailing list. The initials may have referred to something long,
long ago, but that's barely relevant now. The intelligence,
danceability, and musicality of the recordings and performances
discussed there are all debatable, but long experience teaches
that such debates never go anywhere. Ever. Sorry.
