If you like the ATR sound, go for his albums "The Destroyer" and also his first stuff in that vein, "Squeeze The Trigger". "The Destroyer" was composed on a bet/dare with a friend, who wanted to see if Alec was up to composing an entire album, listenable as such, that was breakbeat hardcore, and functions surprisingly well as a complete listen. The prototype IMO of the whole DHR sound as a label is to be found here. "Squeeze The Trigger" is basically a collection of singles from an earlier period and while there's good stuff to be found a lot of it is homogenized, 12" one-off stuff and not as well mastered as "Destroyer". Plus "Destroyer" takes a lot of the ideas/structures and advances them quite a bit. For other more 'cerebral' stuff there's, well, quite a bit. Alec was on Mille Plateaux for quite a while before he went and got his own imprint. For my taste I prefer "Generation Star Wars" and "Limited Editions 1990-94" which is pretty forward in its own right. "Hypermodern Jazz" and the "Iceland Sessions" are OK but not particularly super in my book- both are kind of concept records, ventures into fruity electronic jazz and slow, pan sonicesque minimalism, respectively. He also has a 3CD box set, the first release on DHR's IDM sublabel Geist, which features highlights from all his MP releases before he split with them. It's pretty good, but good luck finding one. I bought a copy for my college radio station, now I kind of wish I'd hung onto it. Last but not least are his contributions to the "Electric Ladyland" series on MP, sort of the plodding German answer to Ninjatune's "Earthrise" comps I guess, breakbeats and such with all manner of weirdness on top and underneath, something I thought was pretty exciting but apparently nobody else did, otherwise they might still be releasing new additions...
