"Felt Mountain" has its moments, but I wouldn't say it's a necessary pickup. She seems to focus on the cabaret style a little too much, and the album has a number of slow spots. Some of the stuff sounds derivative (if you've heard "Human" I think you know what I mean). She also reuses this same melody a few times on the album. I guess you could say it's a theme for her album, but it mostly just irritates me. That said, I think she has a lot of potential. I saw her last week in New York (went to see Plaid open for her), and I was rather impressed by her vocal abilities (it's one thing to sing on a recording... another to mirror that live). Her backing band gave her songs a lot more flair, and "Utopia" sounded wonderful. She covered Olivia Newton John's "Physical" that night, too. If she could grow stronger in the songwriting department, Ms. Goldfrapp could be a real talent. -Ryan p.s. - she wore the combat gear and beret in NYC, too :) At 05:34 PM 5/10/2001 -0400, you wrote:
