"Fair enough about it *not* being the label's job. Autechre and
their manager failed."
You're sounding like your inability to purchase a t-shirt was life and
death, so I think failure is far too loaded a term to be throwing around.
So you didn't get to buy a shirt at the show. If it means that much to
you, then get one from Warpmart (they will be carrying the US t-shirts).
If five bucks (if it's even that) is stopping you then, it must not have
been very important to you in the first place.
There were no flyers/handbills for the shows because they were sold out
weeks ago, so why would a concert promoter spend the money on that? There
were none for any upcoming Warp events because there are none confirmed
now. Plus, the Bowery Ballroom usually don't do that sort of thing for
their shows.
We are doing our first Nesh-style event soon enough and I can assure that
there will be handbills, postcards, etc. when there's an event to promote.
But, from my vantage point there isn't one, but geez... I could be wrong,
I'm only organizing it.
"I'm not saying necessarily that I was *expecting* to get free
stuff..."
Well, you've carried on about how jilted you feel about not being lavished
with little trinkets and brightly colored souvenirs, so that's exactly how
it sounds. This was an Autechre show, not a Warp Nesh night.
"Walking around Manhattan I saw several really cool posters for
other clubs and other events."
promoters pay for those, not labels...
"While sitting around downstairs at the Bowery
ballroom there were several handbills and nicely printed cardstock
flyers onthe tables for future events."
promoters pay for those, not labels...
"Hell, there were even gutter-punks outside the Autechre show handing out
flyers for other future events."
Be nice, they're not gutter punks... they're downwardly-mobile
disenfranchised musicians. And hey, goody for them... (they weren't
called the Strokes, were they?). I hope you buy their album,
acknowledging their hard work because we obviously have lost the track
already in our few short months with our gargantuan staff of one.
"Then again, the show was sold out so maybe Warp USA didn't feel
as if it were important to promote it?"
No, there just wasn't any upcoming shows to promote, that's all.
This could go on in ad finitum. You were disappointed and that's fine.
I'm sorry I ruined your birthday by running over the family dog. I would
promise to make it up to you next year, but apparently, we're not going to
be around.
