Yeah, this pretty much sums up night one. My biggest complaint with the
venue was the sound system. The bass only existed as a diffuse thudding
sound that obliterated a lot of the high end detail and made it almost
impossible to enjoy with earplugs (think dinosaur stomping on Dixie cups).
Between this and being continuously jostled/stepped on/poured beer upon
made it sort of difficult to follow the boys once they cut the moorings
loose and started to navigate through more oblique territory. The early
part of the set did pretty much affirm their reputation as rhythmic
virtuosoes & I imagine that the latter part was equally rewarding,
especially to those who possess the Boulezesque ability to comprehend the
most difficult music in one go. Unfortunately, I did not rank among their
number that night.
