Hi,

I got bought that compilation when it came out a while back by my garage obsessed friend and to honest it really didn't click for me at all, it all seemed a bit lifeless. And the diva stuff just gets on my tits. To be honest, unless uk garage comes on a mixtape with some decent mc'ing, I just find it a little boring on the whole, the production simply isn't there yet. I don't mind the tunes leaning towards nubreaks or those secretly produced by drum'n'bass heads (grooverider/zinc/hype/andy/et al) which geniunely sound interesting, but on the whole uk garage hasn't quite impressed itself on me yet, and I have been trying. I love the concept of two step/uk garage. Take jump up, slow it down so that you can fit some groovy rattle around the break, and you're on to a real winner. Makes your head work. That's the time to add a nasty bassline or some interesting industrial sweeps or something. It's bound to go that way as people get more discerning. Let's just hope it doesn't go over the top and drive all the ladies away, like drum and bass did. There's nothing wrong with vocals, as drum and bass is re-discovering, but uk garage needs to forget the house/garage connection and chuck chi-town divas and ditties to make the kids buy it. Even sweet like chocolate sounded like it could be good until the vocal arived, geez.

I'll have to copy that off my friend. Cheers, Tom. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
