having gotten my hands on a full version of confield, and now having given
it a few listens.... i will say that i don't find it at all to be the huge
disappointment a lot of people on the list seem to.... but it is not the
best work to date, which breaks the trend for the first time. it is possible
that they've finally plateaued.... the thing i find lacking is that the
album sounds a bit "flat" despite it being much more cohesive. more like
variations on a (dsp) theme.
however, there are select tracks that i completely love. the first track
(which was on the warp site) is totally amazing, imo. the bouncing ball
effect has perhaps finally and completely run its course now
though..........
i don't really find arovane to be more sophisticated than autechre (in fact,
despite "atol scrap" being one of my favorite IDM albums, i think it's hot
on the heels of what autechre was doing 5 years ago), although i have been
really impressed with the new jamie lidell and leafcutter john releases in
terms of IDM that breaks away from the crunchy-beat-pretty-melodies formula.
and no, i am not saying i do not like arovane, or that i want to start a
flame war on whether or not arovane is or is not as good as
autechre......... please!
in any case i will definitely purchase the album (i found mp3s) when it is
released and i can't wait to see them in columbus!
bye
