i always preferred the label "electronica" for the genre. But at the time
IDM came to be because the UK was dancing in fields to 4-4 beat piano
tracks inter-dispersed with hoover sounds. It was viewed that Autechre etc.
was more "listening music", therefore more intelligent than the generic
fodder blasting into the countryside at 6am.... i guess :)
