The second 12 on Vertical Form is almost absurdly derivative of CR, and which certainly fits the bill of the more dub end of the tech stuff. It's a split between Rapaccioli and Agent Cooper (aka Pacou). One of the first track on the A side sounds so like Maurizio it weirds me out. It's a classic Maurizio groove - booming kick on the offbeat giving it that reggae accent. OTOH, Rapaccioli is involved with Leftfield, who have always had some reggae influenced tracks. So perhaps he was just going for a reggae thing and didn't realise (or care) how much it ended up sounding like someone else. The downbeat track is a bit more his own thing, and certainly has a major dub influence to it, although with a less reggae rhythm. The Pacou tunes both sound to me exactly like Various Artists. If I didn't know it was someone else, I would have thought Agent Cooper was another pseudonym for Various Artists. I like the way the music sounds, but there is something I find unnerving about music that sounds a lot like someone else. I guess I'm more interested in the concepts behind music than I sometimes admit to myself... *shrug* Michael -+- Involve Records http://involverecords.com Jet Jaguar MP3s (latest upload Nov2000) http://mp3.com/jetjag -+- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
