some stuff i picked up recently, that i thought was worth sharing. (because sharing is caring...) Ilpo Vaisanen - Asuma (mego) Delarosa and Asora - Agony Part I (schematic) Delarosa and Asora - Backsome ep (schematic) dat politics - sous hit (digital narcis) Vladislav Delay - Anima (mille plateaux) Autechre - Peel Sessions II (warp) Fumble - s/t (karaoke kalk) all good releases. the only thing is (and i hope this isn't a growing trend... although mego seems to be part of this camp) most of these CDs are just over 30 minutes long. and they're full lengths damnit! (not including the D&A ep and the Autechre) Vladislav is a proper full length (and a super sweet full length) but what's the deal with this 30 minute shit on the others. i know fennesz is part of some 'society' that's against full lengths more than 30 minutes long, but does everyone have to do this? and especially when they're imports. with all that aside, i'd recommend all of these if you don't mind spending 14 - 16 bucks for a 30 minute CD. the Fumble CD is a bit different than other karoake material in my opinion, but it's good stuff regardless. dat politics continue their bizarre humor of glitch plus cheesy drum machine programming but manage to make the songs 'catchy.' (yes, catchy.) everyone's probably discussed the D&A CDs a million times, so i'm not going to bother. the Ilpo Vaisanen (mika vainio) CD has a panasonic feel for obvious reasons. not as 'glitchy' as other mego stuff though which is a pleasant departure. nice artwork if you're gonna judge a CD by its artwork. (which you shouldn't. but it gets bonus points... and tina frank is awesome) i think Vladislav's newest has been discussed, so i don't really have much to add other than the CD was excellent as expected. i mentioned weakener's 'suffocation' a few weeks back. really good material. dark ambient with cut up breaks and careful use of samples. nice drum/rhythm programming as well. i'll have to review this one in more depth. i at least owe this much to kevin potts for his kindness. (and good music...) i was also thinking about ways to review 'IDM' releases. with a super pretentious name like 'IDM' you'd think the CDs would get IQ points. so here's my super pretentious review: Ilpo Vaisanen - Asuma : IQ 129 Delarosa and Asora - Agony Part I : IQ 135 Delarosa and Asora - Backsome ep : IQ 136 dat politics - sous hit : IQ 121 Vladislav Delay - Anima : IQ 140 Autechre - Peel Sessions II : IQ 138.35 Fumble - s/t : IQ 133 i won't subject kevin to my IQ ratings. unless he wants me to. cheers, christian : IQ nil --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
