when will idm'ers stop making this post ? it's a testament to unformed face of the genre, a 'community' of people who are still looking for some kind of communal indentification. look, it's called 'idm', the name sucks, but it's too late to change it. i personally don't see anything about the counting crows that "rock". but alas they are rock music. too late to change that ! one thing is that several genres in electronic music were named after the venues they were popularized in : house (chicago's the warehouse), garage (new york's paradise garage), jungle (london's the jungle), etc. the funny thing, though is that idm, quite interestingly is simultaneously developping in at least five cities right now accross the world, although no idm weekly can seem to stay in business (RIP sf's static) : our only unified locale is the internet. so call it 'internet dork music'. 'it doesn't matter' ! the beauty of the term is that it's an acronym and you don't have to say what it stands for. will you let me be an ass an quote myself ? sorry. post called 'Re: [idm] IDM is not downtempo (a historical analysis)' from 12.19.2000 :

i hardly got any replies to this ? was it that stupid/accurate ? thanks. .af. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
