re: lee's mail below: actually, the venture capitalist mention was more of a joke than anything. the bottom line obviously takes precedence over the bassline when it comes to people like that - don't take me too seriously! dublab does have a ton of hits (well over a million a month, 30,000 plus dedicated listeners) and indie cred (well known in the electronic music community, national press from a feature in spin on down...) which i'd think would translate as niche marketing/youth culture bucks to some savvy business types?

as far as david's reply below - the hosting/server costs aren't really the problem. dublab actually inked a deal with house of blues to host all their live stream etc. expenses for naught. but in order to make the whole thing work (you're talking about an internet radio station that's broadcasting with live dj's sixteen or so hours a day) you gotta have a skeleton crew of at least six people or so for whom dublab is a full time job and they've got to get paid. 1-2 people in the studio at all times to keep it running, handle tech support, just hold the fort down. 1-2 people to handle web design and programming of the site. and 1-2 people to handle business/marketing/promotions. plus there's the basic overhead of cheap rent for the studio and the gear costs and upkeep for a coupla computers, studio setup, etc... which (albeit a small one!) still translates to an operating budget that you've got to have funding for. and that's what they're after. regardless - i totally appreciate the advice from david and others about all this. good to know that somebody out there cares! all for now, brock ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 13:27:45 -0500 To: "Lee Azzarello" <roswell@alumni.antioch-college.edu>, "IDM" <idm@hyperreal.org> From: "David Gee" <david@psysurgeons.com> Subject: Re: [idm] dublab NEWS Message-ID: <00d401c08bb3$823ee260$80fe46c0@maya.com> when k10k.net started running out of bandwidth, mediatemple(www.mediatemple.net ) bailed them out. it might be a good idea to contact them, they seem to be interested in sponsoring cool shit. with k10k, they did it in exchange for promotion - no banner ads or anything, just a link to the site and some info. they also offered a special deal to anybody who signed up for hosting services with them and mentioned k10k. anyway, it might help... david __________________________________________________ Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo!
